Desperate housewives?

What are they talking about over at the Huffington Post – Desperate Housewives, Desperate Measurements?

06Desperate Housewives is a TV show not real life. OK, first let me say sorry but here I go.

It’s not complicated, let your kids go outside everyday; no jazzercise necessary. Start when they’re little, real little and go outside. They will naturally stay fit. No planning, no programs and no play dates! Play – plain and simple.

You don’t need an exercise program, it’s as simple as playing outside everyday. Playing with the other kids from the neighborhood. Sometimes they’ll even play with you, the parent. It’s fun! You don’t need a specific exercise program, go outside and they’ll do the rest. You certainly don’t need any tricks.

Kids do, what kids do: play, run and jump. Scream WOWHO! Laugh. Build strong relationships with their peers and parents. I know it’s a revolutionary idea. Come on, I know you remember bikes, balls, toys, pretend, dolls, digging in the dirt. I remember those long summer evenings playing “kick-the-can” running and laughing until we could go no further. The joy of the first snow, no school and sledding until our faces hurt.

Sorry, I’m tired of hearing about children needing an exercise program. Get them outside at an early age and they’ll be begging to go outside for the rest of their childhood. If you and your kids go outside then the other children and parents in the neighborhood will come out too. It’s fun; it’s old school. And you’ll get to see the best years of your children’s life and all those important physical milestones.

Sorry for the rant!
Tell me what you think and your experiences growing up “playing outside”?
