He was blazing fast and looked like my dad.

istock_000004893302xsmallI’m not kidding. I thought I walk fast until last September while at the beach.

I went out on my walk and I looked up and saw this guy walking along at a great pace and I thought, I’ll just catch him to push myself a little harder. Well a couple miles went by and I was barely making up any ground on him. Wow, he’s fast. Then he crossed the street and disappeared. I was crushed. No one had ever been able to out pace me.

On I went, until out of the corner of my eye someone came up next to me and it was him – my dad. Just kidding, he could have been my dad. I popped out my earphones and proceeded to give it to him.”You’re the fastest walker I ever met” I said. Thanks, Richard from Raleigh said,  and we struck a conversation. Sorry, I think that was his name.

Here’s how the conversation went:

ME: Man, you can fly.
HIM: Thanks, you too.
ME: How many miles are you walking today?
HIM: Five miles. I’ve been walking five miles a day for 10 years. I’m 65 years old and it keeps me fit. And I’ve got five grandchildren and I want to keep up with them.
ME: Do you walk at this pace everyday?
HIM: Oh, yes. It’s just how I walk. I walk around my house outside Raleigh, NC .
ME: That’s awesome! I see you don’t listen to music.
HIM: No, I prefer to walk without it. I prefer the time to think.
HIM: Well, I gotta go. Nice meeting and talking.

And off he sped. He was 65 years old but looked 50. Not an ounce of fat and happy as could be.

MikeZ – step by step for weight control – walk with purpose.

Richard from Raleigh – sounds like “Sleepless in Seattle”

“This is Dr Marsha with Richard from Raleigh.”
