Start, re-start or jump start.

start, re-start or jump startI know it’s hard starting, re-starting or jump starting a life with exercise in it. I’ve been there.  I stopped exercising for over two years.  It was difficult re-starting. I bounced between working out and a complete full stop. Finally, I figured out what exercise had consistently worked for me – walking. Walking outside to be exact. How did I forget my 15 years of outside walking? Maybe, I chose to forget?

I vividly remember the moment of full power unhappiness, an “in the mirror moment” when I looked at the reflection and decided this had gone far enough. I was not happy with my thirty extra pounds and I walked out the front door and haven’t looked back. Walking 1700 miles over a 15 month period. With a five year goal to walk 6000 miles and to raise a bunch of money for charity through walking.

How did I do it? I started. Starting small. Building my personal fitness goals as my strength, stamina and confidence returned. Here’s a great write at Lifehack – “5 Ways to Pick up the Exercise Habit Again”

“Here are 5 ways to give yourself the mental kick in the pants that you need to stop procrastinating, get up off the couch, and get back into the habit.”

  • Use it as an excuse to get “me” time.
  • Put away your “fat” clothes.
  • Make yourself an irresistible offer.
  • Turn it into a social experience.
  • Take a good look in the mirror.

Go ahead, I know you can do it.
Strap on those walking shoes and step out the front door. Walk a small distance, like a quarter or half mile but at a quick pace. Then commit to doing it three – four days a week. Build it from there, build a routine.

Good luck and I believe in you! Help is only a message or tweet away at ZumeWalk.
