walking in backyardGary T, a member of USA TODAY’s 2007 Weight-Loss Challenge, has worn a path around his backyard from walking the perimeter so much. He shed more than 90 pounds. A new study finds it doesn’t take hours of daily walking to improve your health.

How amazing he lost 90 pounds walking in his backyard. Now he needs some tunes to spice it up.

“If you take a brisk walk for as little as 20 to 30 minutes three times a week, you’ll feel more energetic, happier and calmer, says a study presented Thursday at an American Heart Association meeting in Colorado Springs. This adds to the growing body of evidence on the benefits of even small amounts of physical activity for improving quality of life.”Exercise makes you feel better,” says Timothy Church, director of preventive medicine research at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge. The more you do, the more you benefit, he says. By Nanci Hellmich, USA TODAY”

“The more you do, the more you improve, but you’ll see improvements doing as little as 73 minutes a week.”
Take a walk in your own backyard or around the block. You never know you might like the results.
Your yard is only steps away. I hear it calling you.
