Nothing like sweating to get out the toxins and to get a read on your level of effort. Sweat it up. It’s OK - nobody cares if you finish a workout covered in sweat. Walking can be the exercise of sweat filled choice but you better get moving and moving quickly.I see people walking all the time. The problem is they’re walking so slow and I never see a drop of sweat. I’m always covered in sweat, no matter the temperature or season. If you want to get fit, stay fit and lose weight, get moving and speed up the walking. How about walking 12-14 minute miles? This is about the right speed, once you’ve been walking for a few months and have built up your stamina. Hank Daniszewski, of the London Free Press writes “Want to Age Well? Sweat.”
Yoga is in. Raquetball is out. As baby boomers age, they’ll drag the market for fun and fitness along with them, as they always have.
Demographer David Foot, author of Boom, Bust and Echo, says the future lies in more gentle activities such as walking, gardening and golf.
He says walking can qualify but only if done at a brisk pace, breathing harder, heart rate increase . . . It should actually feel like you’re exercising rather than a leisurely stroll.
Get going and get going fast, by walking, but walk at a vigorous or fast pace. Work your way up to one hour of walking 4-5 days a week. Join me tomorrow by taking that first walk. I’m with you all the way.
