I walked my way slim.

Her name is Lacy and she walked off 40 pounds.

Lacy’s story, “I walked my way slim” appears in april_2009_coverApril 2009 issue of Shape magazine by Kristen Maxwell, is amazing and inspirational.

Her story isn’t unique, she was a chubby teen, had asthma and on her high school graduation she weighed 180 pounds. But this is where the story gets good, off she went to college and amazingly she didn’t gain the freshman 15, she lost weight. How’d she do it?

All that walking on campus, going from class to class, that’s how! To see the full story, walk over to your local bookstore, grab a skinny latte and the April issue of Shape Magazine and get the full scoop. Here’s her workout and eating tricks:

Lacy’s three stick-with-it secrets:

  • Have a trick for treats “I keep sugar free gum and hard candies around to satisfy my cravings for sweets.”
  • Don’t write off the whole week “At the beginning, if I strayed from my diet, I’d start over again on Monday. Now I get back to healthy eating at the very next meal.”
  • Focus on your feelings “I don’t measure success by a number on the scale or the size I wear, but my state of mind. If I feel energetic and healthy, I’m happy.”

Weekly workout schedule:

  • Yoga 30 minutes/2 to 3 days a week
  • Walking 20 minutes/5 days a week

Now the really great part, Lacy’s a blogger and you can find her over at The ‘ME’ Makeover, writing about her quest to make positive change in her life and others life. In her own words,

It’s true that I lost 40 pounds in college and totally made over the way I eat, but the article does make it seem a lot easier than it was. I’m sure it has to do with necessities of space and word count, but there was some serious yo-yoing that went on before I reached that 40-pound weight loss. I went on Slim Fast and dropped 45 pounds, but as soon as I stopped drinking the shakes, it came back because I hadn’t learned to eat in the real world.

Lacy, thanks for having the courage to write Shape and tell your story, we look forward to following your story well into the future. We know you’ll never give up and we’re right there with you, every step of the way.

MikeZ_i love hearing and telling stories about real people, walking – step by step.
