We live in a fast pace world and most of the time, I love it but sometimes finding my balance is a requirement especially with regards to exercise and career. When does regular exercise not become an option but becomes a necessity. Penelope Trunk’s, Brazen Careerist is finding that “Regular Exercise is No Longer an Option.”
When email first became widely used, I worked for a guy who thought it was optional. At some point, it truly was optional. High-level executives used to be able to say, “Call my secretary. I don’t have email.” I remember thinking that my boss did not understand reality. That times had changed and his career was going to end if he couldn’t manage to take a look at his in box once a day.
Today I am thinking the same thing about exercise. We used to think that it was optional. But today, it is so overwhelmingly clear that regular exercise changes your life and makes you perform better at work, that it is absolutely absurd to think that you can function optimally in your life without regular exercise.
Finding ones balance point in life isn’t always easy but it is an exercise worth pursuing. Penelope makes a great point when talking about working an extra hour doesn’t help her catch up on work, in my opinion it just adds another hour to your work day. Getting fit will give your career a boost and the energy to create, innovate, collaborate and cooperate. See you out there, in the fitness world getting your career fit and ready to compete and grow.

PS – I’m a true lifelong ‘techno-geek’; I find if I use technology properly I can better manage my day and my communication within my organization. If you are a Brazen Careerist remember – have a project, get it done, get it billed, get paid and do it with the best tools available. Tech is a tool in your toolbox not the toolbox.
