Fear is a mental hurdle. In order to go forward in any pursuit, we are all required to jump many hurdles on the journey. Don’t fear the ‘possible’ end result, fear not STARTING! Give your imagination a rest. Let go and begin.
Laura Moncur’s post at Starling Fitness touched me, because I think what’s holding most people back in life, is the fear of a ‘possible’ or imagined outcome. The thinking goes something like this, I might still be fat next year or how will my friends feel about me when I’m fit? Who really knows? Start, then figure it out, never fear the “possible unknown” future outcome. Might turn out like one of your lifelong dreams.
I see so many people at Weight Watchers who stay the same weight, me included. Whenever I really attack the reasons why I’m not following program, it always comes down to being afraid. Sometimes I’m afraid of failing. Sometimes I’m even afraid of succeeding.
If I fail, then everyone knows that I keep trying to lose weight and I’m still STUCK where I am.
If I succeed, then I have to live in an unfamiliar world of being thin. Will that make me different somehow? Will I be conceited? Will I be constantly hungry? Will I be promiscuous?
It’s no wonder that I feel stuck sometimes.
It has been said that fear is energy. It’s the energy that we need to do something scary. They always say feel the fear and do it anyway, but I want you to USE that fear to move you past your sticking point. Every time you feel scared, go exercise, clean out the bad food in the house or call a friend and talk it out. Don’t let fear trap you in a life that is less than you deserve.
Feelings of fear are self destructive – are you feeling stuck and spending all your time and energy imagining the future outcome? Stop!
Start your exercise program, with a small first step. Small achievable goals are the key, especially when it comes to starting a fitness and weight control program. Noticed, I said fitness and weight control program, they go hand in hand, starting one without the other is pure fantasy. Start the fitness program first then much, much later start a weight control program.
Here’s a goal, walk out your front door and walk around the block. Now do it for one month everyday. Then re-access and create a bigger goal. Two laps around the block. Keep going, you got it now. Walk for one year.
I’m with you. You can do it! Believe in you.
MikeZ_walking step by step towards my goals, how about joining me?
Please consult your physician before starting any exercise or weight loss program. Your physician is your very best resource.
Thank you so much for the link to Starling Fitness. When I saw that postcard on PostSecret last week, it just brought up so many emotions for me. I’m glad to know that others are feeling the same.
