Isn't "it" about changing the world for the better. Whatever "it" is anyway? I'm not sure about my 'it" yet. What's your "it"?
Let's change the world, one step at a time. One pound at a time.
I see, you're asking what does this have to do with me, walking, fitness? Nothing or everything. We could organize an one day nationwide walk to raise a million bucks. Something I came up with while walking. Maybe we could raise the money for children and medical research. What do you think?
Here's what I figure:
WHAT - Walk - May 1, 2009
WHEN - Anytime you want
WHERE - Your...
Man was it cold today. Ten miles in 20 degrees and colder.
By the end of my walk, I was exhausted and my outside hat layer was frozen at the brim. Nice. I saw at least twenty other people getting in a workout; enjoying the clear and cold day.
Lesson re-learned today regarding cold weather hydration, even though it's cold you still need the same amount of hydration that you consume during hot weather walks. I had enough water but just barely.
I know you've heard the layers thing a thousand times. Layers, layers and more layers. Here's one trick, wear layers that can unzip at least five...
My shoe of choose is the MBT - "the anti-shoe".
MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology; it should stand for "Make Butt Tight".
These shoe have a rounded bottom and force you while standing, moving, running or walking to balance constantly thus burning more calories and focusing on core muscle groups rather than just large leg muscles.
I've been through two pairs and have loved every moment. It's hard to statistically measure results but when I've talked with people who just purchased theses shoes, their opinions all pointed toward the increased difficulty of working out in a pair of MBT's...
The house is empty, it's late. Just me and my computer.
My family is away. Zumed away for a weekend with family on Long Island. I don't know about you but I like to hear the noise of life. Better than a pulse for checking your well being. Most of the time when my family leaves, I feel a little alone not lonely. But this time it got me thinking about ZumeWalk, walking and the solitude of walking.
Walking alone is fine, great most of the time. And I don't mind taking off on my own for a long walk to drain the stress. But deep down, secretly, I like to see people while working out - walking....
I went out this evening with the Leki Nordic Trekking poles. Got in five miles and felt great with the poles.
Sorry to say but I was a chicken being seen with them. So I went to a hidden away path, that way I could go unseen. Ridiculous but true.
Anyway, it went great. I look forward to the rest of the weekend with them. And how the "bod" will feel after four or five days working out with them.
I'll let you know.

Walk on, rock on.
I walk all year long. Love the warm months and just get it done in the cold ones.
Sounds nuts but it relieves stress and I get some good daily fresh(air, that is) which is great after a long day working inside.
The problems are all the layers of clothing, cold air and the tightness associated with winter workouts. So I've begun to really focusing on warming-up (stretching), staying warm & loose during walking and the cool down process after the workout.
Number One Goal - Improving my warm-up and cool down routine in 2009.
This is code for stretching. The thing that most of us hate...
I just bought some nordic walking sticks. And I'm embarrassed to take them out for the first time. I bought them because during my winter walking it gets slippery and thought it might help on those snowy and icy days. I bought the Leki Supreme/Prestige Fitness Walking Poles at Dicks Sporting Goods for under a hundred bucks.
After some research, I found out that nordic walking sticks or poles can burn 20-25% more calories than just regular walking.
I'll suck it up and get them out this weekend.
Please don't laugh at me as I'm walking by with my poles swing in the winter breeze!
Maybe...
Zume? ZumeWalk? Never heard of it. Is it a real word? And what the hell does it mean anyway?
OK. Let me tell you a little about how I came up with the word ZumeWalk. The word, Zume, is more about a feeling than it is about a literal word. It's the feeling you get when you complete a great walk or better yet a month of walks. You're "zooming". A good example is how you feel zooming in your car with the sun roof open or the top down on a beautiful sunny Friday. The music is blasting a favorite song and you're singing at the top of your lungs. And you don't care what the world thinks.
That's...
It's everywhere! TV, print and the internet. Oprah has started off again to change her life and get fit. I know that a smart and driven woman like Oprah will and can do it. I only wish that she would consider changing her perspective.

The way I look at it is simple, let's say you gained weight over a two year period. Then it will take two years to take it off. Simple, straight forward and it always WORKS! I try to focus on making real change, slowly over time. This is the only way to get and keep the weight off - forever....
