Fear is a mental hurdle. In order to go forward in any pursuit, we are all required to jump many hurdles on the journey. Don't fear the 'possible' end result, fear not STARTING! Give your imagination a rest. Let go and begin.
Laura Moncur's post at Starling Fitness touched me, because I think what's holding most people back in life, is the fear of a 'possible' or imagined outcome. The thinking goes something like this, I might still be fat next year or how will my friends feel about me when I'm fit? Who really knows? Start, then figure it out, never fear the "possible unknown" future outcome....
Where does the ripple in the water begin? Within you.
Starting an exercise program emanates from within whether it begins from pain, frustration or some other personal emotion. The starting is always a difficult moment but once you get going the ripple grows and grows, then it is - you. This is the secret. My neighbor said to me one day, that I was like a machine, always walking, you never quit. I took this as a great compliment, a part of me and I've worked for every piece of it. The secret is in the starting, so start. One simple movement forward toward your goal. Define a simple goal then...
Yes, walking is a rocky mountain high and the University of Colorado at Boulder has a 'secret' in their study about walking and weight loss.
The University of Colorado provides an interesting perspective in this article, "Walk Slowly For Weight Loss."
"Leisurely walking for distance combined with low-impact cardiovascular activity appears to be the best formula for obese people seeking to get into shape and stay healthy, according to a University of Colorado at Boulder study.
Ray Browning, a doctoral student in CU-Boulder's integrative physiology department and lead author on the new study,...
I know it's hard starting, re-starting or jump starting a life with exercise in it. I've been there. I stopped exercising for over two years. It was difficult re-starting. I bounced between working out and a complete full stop. Finally, I figured out what exercise had consistently worked for me - walking. Walking outside to be exact. How did I forget my 15 years of outside walking? Maybe, I chose to forget?
I vividly remember the moment of full power unhappiness, an "in the mirror moment" when I looked at the reflection and decided this had gone far enough. I was not happy with my thirty...
POSITIVE.
Yes, I said it. Positive. Hard word to hear today.
What is positive? And how do you accentuate it?

"Two women visit their doctors and receive the same diagnosis: they have heart disease requiring coronary bypass surgery. Both women are the same age and weight, with no other health problems. Neither has a family history of cardiac problems."
Read the rest of "Accentuate the Positive: Optimism & Your Health" at HealthyWomen.org.
What was the difference between the two women? Dispositional optimism, meaning that one woman had expectations that were...
My grandma, always said to write your thank you notes early, so here they are for two authors and a site. All gave me invaluable resources before starting ZumeWalk. Great reads and resources.
This book by Andy Wibbels, "BlogWild!", is one of the reasons I got into blogging so I guess you could call this - a call out for Andy. Thanks, Andy.
Two pieces of advice from Andy's book which seems so appropriate are - start. And a blog lives in all of us. So get writing and walking. Both are starting.
Seth Godin's book, "Tribes" is another real eye opening read for anyone that wants to be part...
