Jean Nidetch, the founder of Weight Watchers International, was once a housewife who weighed more than 200 pounds. She slimmed down to 142 pounds in 1962 and has never been heavy again.
Now, at 86, she lives in a retirement community in Parkland, Fla., and has written her autobiography, The Jean Nidetch Story.
She says she never dreamed that her weight-loss experience would lead to a successful international company that would help millions trim down.

Zume? ZumeWalk?
Never heard of it. Is it a real word? And what the hell does it mean anyway?
OK. Let me tell you a little about how I came up with the word ZumeWalk. The word, Zume, is more about a feeling than it is about a literal word. It's the feeling you get when you complete a great walk or better yet a month of walks. You're "zooming". A good example is how you feel zooming in your car with the sun roof open or the top down on a beautiful sunny Friday. The music is blasting a favorite song and you're singing at the top of your lungs. And you don't care what the world thinks.
That's...
Your doctor is absolutely your best resource. See them before you start your walking journey.
Tell them exactly what your doing and how you plan to do it. I know that they'll love the idea of you starting a program of walking. And that the best idea is to start slowly but most importantly get started right after your appointment. That very same day.
Listen to everything your doctor has to say because they have seen it all. And they have years of incredible experience working with individuals designing fitness and nutritional programs that really work.
I know that my doctor is awesome...
Walking Away the Stress
OK, I've figured it out. I've been walking a little less each month for the last three months because of a busy work schedule. My monthly average dropped to around 75 miles per month but more importantly my days per week of walking fell off a cliff - 3 per week. This does not work for me! I've got to be out there walking five to six days per week or it show up in my daily life in other ways, not just at the waist line.
How does it show up in my life, you ask?
Well it show up it not ridding my life and body of stress and it shows up in not clearing my mind each day....
Weight loss is Attainable with a Little Effort
"The last thing you need is a burrito supreme." Said my friend Kenny. Ah, yes, it's good to have friends. Kenny was right, of course.
Sometime last winter I reached 191 pounds. When you're 5-5, there's no place to put that much weight.
It had been creeping up on me, starting sometime in the late summer of 1997 when I was assigned to write stories for the Portage Daily Register's football tab. I was driving all over central Wisconsin interviewing smarty-pants high school football players who tried to convince me that their names were...
Easy Walking for Losing Weight
The greatest thing about walking, you can do it everyday. I walk six days and week but truthfully every once in a while, I miss a day but I'm only human and so are you - go a little easy on yourself. Take the time to build up a walking routine slowly over a year and then it's much easier to keep it going for life.
The thing that keeps me going is not wanting to gain the weight back again and my music. I love to get the iPod and set on my favorite playlist and out the door I zoom, walking off the days stress and letting my mind work on some creative work the marketing...
Snowy and it's Monday. Sounds like a song from the 70's. The Washington, DC metro area hates snow. Anything over two inches and the city comes to a screeching halt.
Zume's got his snow pants on and is shoveling the drive. I'm drinking coffee and looking out the window. Darn, he's seen me and is waving wildly. He's happy as can be... oh, to be young and foolish. I'm now laughing at him because he's green and covered in snow from head to toe.
It is very beautiful.
Thank goodness it's my walking day off.
Enjoy the day, wherever you are.

I didn't finish my 25 random posts but I will do 25 random miles this weekend. Today was an 11.8 mile day, so I'll have a little longer walk tomorrow to get my 25 miles.
Sorry for my crazy idea of doing 25 random posts about the "Facebook 25 Random Thing" phenomenon. I wasn't sure if it was funny or annoying, so I stopped.
Wish me luck tomorrow with my 13.2 miles. I hope the weather holds up here in DC.

PS - Just an update, I'm raising money for the Breast Cancer 3-day ZumeWalk DC Team; I'm raising a dollar per mile and so far I've logged 37.37...
